Happy New Year!!!!!!
On New Years Eve, we had an impromptu kids NYE party.
I'm pretty sure none of the kids understood the concept of a year, let alone NYE but we all had fun none the less.
Sam & Luke...starting off 2013
Phil and Lita enjoying a glass of wine for me...
Sam has been out of school and unlike most moms I know, I have loved every second of it and I don't really want him to go back on Tuesday......
We have spent the first week of the new year attempting to take care of business....
but we've had some unseasonably nice weather, so we've been playing too....
One of the things on our to do list was Luke's Flu shot and 2 yr check up.
It wasn't the highlight of my year so far....
1. The Dr. moved from a convenient location to a swanky, new and slightly harder to get to location.
2. Despite the fact that I took him in 2 times for 18 month vaccinations and they told me I was up to date, we discovered that he was in fact way behind.
Dr: Do you have Luke's vaccination record
Me: No. We've been coming here for a year, don't you have it?
Dr: We don't keep records of our patients vaccinations. That's the parents responsibility.
Me: Well, I brought you a copy a year ago when we moved here, and he hasn't had any since
Dr: Oh, I forgot you're American
Me: No response
Dr: OK, did we give him any 18 month shots?
Me: No, you told me twice he didn't need any
Dr: Hm, looks like we're behind 8 shots then
She gave us two, wrote them down in pencil on a piece of paper for me to bring back as a "vaccination record"
And, Luke has been congested pretty much since we arrived back here in August. So the Dr was worried his lungs are reacting poorly to the pollution in HK so he's now on an inhaler 6 times a day.
She told me we'd try it for a few months to see how it goes and that it may make him hyper so prepare for a couple months of bad nights of sleep.
Nothing new there.
Here's Luke at the Dr hacking into her computer system....
Sam has been begging me to let him paint his crocs lately and I've been telling him no because responsible parents probably shouldn't let kids paint their shoes....
Then it occurred to me,
1. They are crocs
2. I think it's a pretty darn creative idea and maybe I should encourage this artistic flare
3. it will wash off
3. If he loves it he will have original, cool, fun colored crocs that he can be proud he painted himself
so...... there we have it.....
We hit up Stanley for new gym shoes and hair cuts, but settled on matching orange shoes and riding scooters....
(See new shoes below)
Luke's spending the terrible two's in various stages of starvation.....
"Please mom?????!!!!! You let Sam paint his shoes!!!!!!!"
We wrapped the week up with dentist appointments.....
Phil's first appointment with anyone other than his dad.....
And Sam's first teeth cleaning......
Dentist: You must be Sam
Sam: I'm Sam Roger Decourcy Thompson (Me = proud)
Dentist: Wow! Do you know the alphabet too?
Sam: A,B,C, 4 (Me = "I don't know this kid")
He got to watch Cars 2 on the ceiling while the dentist worked and I'm pretty sure he didn't even notice he was getting his teeth cleaned.
No one had cavities and both boys did great!!!!!!!
Happy New Year!!!!!
