Child for Sale

One adorable toddler. Sweet as can be.
Disclaimer- will wake up screaming from approximately 3am until 5:30 am every morning.

(yes, this is how I dress my son after two consecutive nights of no sleep. PJ's and a winter coat he picked out himself.)

On second thought....I'll keep him.

So fresh & so clean, clean.....

"Maybe if I were the first child they would bathe me a bit more!!"

Oh My

Today I was nursing Luke and decided to let Sam roam the first floor instead of confining him to the TV room.
I heard commotion in the kitchen, went in and saw this.....
Sadly, my first response was to think, "Oh, he's being good!!!!!"..... dumping out the kitchen drawers is a welcome alternative to climbing on kitchen table, swinging from the chandelier, playing with knives...or as I literally found him doing last night- walking around with a pair of scissors in his mouth.
(Our little Houdini figured out a way around the child safety locks.)

Excuses, excuses

One of my sons, I'm not naming any names.....

was a terrible sleeper the first 15 months of his life. At one point or another I was seriously convinced one of the following was the reason to blame:
1. He was hungry ( note- this is the only excuse that holds any legitimacy)
2. His room was too hot
3. His room was too cold
4. Phil & I were making too much noise elsewhere in the house....even if we were in the basement
5. Our dog, who was restricted to a different floor, was sneaking into his bedroom and waking him up
6. There was a kidnapper in the house (this is where logic leaves the building)
7. His bedroom was haunted by a ghost that woke him up - this one came about as months of exhaustion set in...and I was so convinced I almost called in a medium. After all, a baby waking ghost makes more sense than just having a bad sleeper.
To this day Phil will occasionally ask me, "Where's the ghost been lately?" or "How's our ghost doing?"
So the other night, Luke fell asleep on our first floor. As I carried him up to bed he started to stir in my arms. As a result of this stirring, combined with the fact that he wakes up in the middle of the night and doesn't always go immediately back to sleep (odd for a 2 week old I know) I started to wonder if the altitude was to blame????
Now upstairs.......
Sara: "Phil, I think the altitude bothers Luke"
Phil: Blank stare, which I interpreted as not understanding....so I continued
Sara: "He sleeps better downstairs, I wonder if the altitude of being on the second floor bothers him?"
Phil: Blank stare, which I now understood to be patience as he waited for me to realize how stupid what I was saying was.....
So just in case, armed with ghost repellent, back downstairs to the couch we went for a good nights sleep.

ahhhhh, beauty rest.....

Help!

I've fallen & I can't get up!!!

Sometimes.....

Sometimes you just have to melt down when, despite your best efforts, your head just won't fit through the railings (Shown below).....

or when the wind blows the wrong way
(which seems to be the case lately)
Good thing he has a 4 second turn around.

It's amazing how much you can love a little guy despite the fact that he has developed a plethora of new habits such as tantrums, screaming, crying, biting and refusing to nap or eat.
Anybody know a good shrink????
This afternoon he bumped his head on the corner of the wall. I promptly went over to him, picked him up, loved on him until he recovered and sat him back down. He stood up, walked directly to the wall, intentionally hit his head on the same spot and then looked at me.
Guess what I did?
Started loving on him again...I know he didn't physically need it, but I figured I should take advantage of any shameless ploys for mama love before I wake up one morning with an acne ridden deep voiced teenager.

Tuesday at the Thompsons

Oh to be 5 days old.....

Sam at bedtime..... last week this time his PJ's matched perfectly and the rain boots didn't make the list of bedtime attire.
Adios to the life of an only child....

This afternoon while left alone with both boys (one napping) I was the victim of spontaneous projectile pooping. Note to self, never EVER change Luke's diaper without a face and bodysuit....
It should never take this many supplies to clean up something from someone who weighs 6 lbs....

My sweater.....
Sam has another bff these days.... also named Sam who came over to play. Here they are taking a little break from some very intense playing.....aka little Sam chasing big Sam around and copying everything he did....
(and yes, that's how desperate our dog is for pets these days)

Luke thought Sam & Sam were onto something....
